History
In the beginning…
Pastor Pitner became the senior Pastor of Foursquare Family Church in 1987. The church was named Foursquare Family Church (FFC) because of its strong emphasis on the church as a close-nit family, and to identify it as a part of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel (ICFG). ICFG is a pentecostal denomination founded by Aimee Semple Mcphereson in the early 1920’s. Click here to learn more about ICFG.
Foursquare Family Church experienced fluctuating growth off and on until a radical change of ministry philosophy occurred in 1995. Our Sr. Pastor, who graduated from SAGU (Southwestern Assemblies of God University) here in Waxahachie, Texax, and CFNI (Christ for the Nations Institute) in Dallas, Texas, implemented a significant change in his approach to ministry.
A Strategy Formed
As the life of Jesus was reviewed, it became apparent to the pastoral staff that Jesus ministered to the hurting in very practical ways. In fact, Jesus touched and healed the multitudes because He had compassion on them; He cared for them! He reserved His harsh words and speech for the religious leaders and gave liberally to the “unchurched” people so that they would realize He and the Father loved them. So in an effort to discover what the community of Waxahachie needed we did a survey of the “unchurched” in our community by asking such questions as:
- What is the reason that you do not attend church?
- What do you feel is your greatest need?
- What advice would you give a local pastor?
If people attended a local church, we thanked them for their time and moved on to another home. The survey showed a startling consistency in the felt needs of the community and we began to focus on those needs to reach the lost. Almost immediately, our attendance began to increase. Since that time in late 1996, our church has more than tripled in attendance. We address those felt needs by giving freely to the community and preaching practical, Bible-centered messages that relate specifically to the daily lives of people. We have annual free event s for the community such as:
- “The Great Easter Egg Hunt”
- “The Fall Festival”
- “The Whip, Hammer, and Cross”
- And other events.
We care about people because God cares about people. People believed Jesus cared because He demonstrated what He taught. We want to do the same!
Framing the Vision
Convinced that the church must become willing to shatter traditions without compromising the Gospel message of Jesus Christ, Pastor Kim began to frame the vision that would lead us into our future. Our vision statement, “Embracing our destiny by encountering God, empowering people, and engaging our life mission” defines a journey of discoveries that God desires each person to make that will ultimately lead them to what God intends for their lives. It is our desire to assist people in discovering the empowerments for ministry and living and ultimately guide them to the unique mission that God has designed for them. It is our fir conviction that as each person makes these discoveries and applies them, they will embrace the destiny that God has for them. Essentially our vision is one of “equipping” and releasing people to be who God made them to be.
The Growing Body
By 1998, our facility could not meet the demand of the ministry that was occurring. Later that same year, we agreed as a church that it was time to expand our seating by building a new facility. Building much of the new building ourselves, we dedicated our new facility which expands our seating capacity from 300 to more that 1100, to the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the glory of God. Our dedication service was March 12, 2000. Our new facility is a multi-purpose building which can be used as a gymnasium for kids and youth, a large fellowship hall for concerts and other events, and a sanctuary for church services. It is designed to help us achieve our mission!
Our Future
We are excited about the future and God continues to do great things in our midst. Foursquare Family Church is a church on a mission. We believe people want to be a part of something that has a purpose, that knows why it exists and strives greatly to accomplish it!
To our guests:
